On the 13 December the NSW Government released the Transport Master Plan, the State Infrastructure Strategy, and Sydney’s Light Rail Future with a $61.8 billion committed to build infrastructure over four years! Sydney’s Rail Future

The Sydney’s Rail Future plan aims to transform our rail network over the long term – introducing rapid transit, single deck trains to deliver major increases in capacity and frequency for greater Sydney. Service Improvements, capital works and network upgrades will be rolled-out over five stages:

  • Operational efficiencies – improving dwell management and de-cluttering platforms
  • Network efficiencies – completing the South-West Rail Link; introducing simpler timetables; enhancing track infrastructure
  • New rapid transit system – completing the North West Rail Link; procuring new rolling stock; upgrading the Epping to Chatswood Rail Link
  • Second Harbour Rail Crossing – completing a new tunnel under the harbour and a new CBD line stations; increasing capacity on the Western Line
  • Southern Sector conversion – extending single deck rapid transit services to Bankstown and Hurtsville; increasing services to the South West and Southern Sydney
